Beijing Daxing International Airport opened for operations in September 2019, following more than four years of construction. Daxing airport is located at the frontier between Beijing and Langfang, Hebei Province and is expected to serve the needs of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei areas. Its location was selected after thorough analysis. With a 46km-distance from Tiananmen Square, a 67km-distance from Beijing International Airport and a 26km-distance from Langfang City Center, Daxing airport aims to become the main airport hub of the region. Beijing Daxing airport was developed at a cost of CNY120bn ($17bn approximately), while the projects in its periphery attracted investments of CNY330bn ($46.2bn approximately). It is expected to handle 72 million passengers by 2025 and up to 100 million passengers and four million tonnes of cargo upon further expansion. The gigantic Daxing airport, with the impressive shape which has given it the nickname “Starfish”, has enormous dimensions. There are currently 4 runways (with the prospect of becoming 7 in the future) and a vast terminal building covering a 700.000m² area while the ground transportation centre extends to 80.000m². Yatai tower cranes have taken part in the construction of Airport transportation control center, aircrew attendance complex, security center and cargo dispatching center.
